The Nicest Classroom in the World
Velero Beach Resort*

Caribbean Traders' Camp:

"The Structure of Successful Trading"

January 19 – 26, 2008

The Velero Beach Resort is a gem of a hotel at the edge of the world-famous Cabarete beach in the Dominican Republic . It is a brand-new four-star deluxe hotel, Canadian-built, owned, and operated. It sits in a park-like setting, with only 15% of land given to low-rise buildings and the remaining 85% filled with luxurious tropical vegetation. There is a fast Internet line in every room, and Wi-Fi in many public areas.

The resort has generous, well-appointed rooms and suites, a swimming pool, and an outdoor restaurant where we will have our breakfast and lunch. It is a great place to spend a week with like-minded congenial people, getting to know each other in a great social atmosphere.

The village of Cabarete is a short ride away from the Puerto Plata airport. It is famous for its one of the top ten wind- and kite-surfing beaches in the world. When the wind is right, you can see a hundred or more sails on the water from your balcony. All rooms have a direct view onto the ocean, with its never-ending show of surfers. For more information about the resort, please click here

All meals are included in your Camp fee, as are beer or wine with dinner. Our campers have breakfast and lunch whenever they like, but we have all our dinners together. The village of Cabarete has many nice restaurants, and we will explore them night after night.

Local attractions are at your front door. There is a delightful beach, where you can relax or even learn to windsurf if you like. There are hills perfect for mountain biking and miles of trails for horseback riding. The village of Cabarete is a cool, safe place, dotted with bars where tourists join locals. Social life ranges from a quiet drink at a waterfront bar to smoky late-night joints.

The Dominican Republic is one of the more prosperous countries in the Caribbean , with a democratically elected government. It shares a border with Haiti , but that border is tightly sealed, making sure that the peaceful and democratic DR is not affected by the sad mess on the other side. Spanish is the dominant language in the DR, but many people in Cabarete speak some English. The lush greenery of the Atlantic coast and the quiet, rural setting make Cabarete a perfect location for our Camp.
